Bachelor Double Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in more than one discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications.
The Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) provides students with the knowledge and skills to become professional chemists in analytical, research and industrial laboratories. The Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) prepares graduates for professional work in the development, design and operation of processes and plant for the extraction, conversion and recovery of materials. The combination of the two degree programs provides graduates with special abilities to work at the interface between the two disciplines in research and development of new processes and specialised plant.
The Institution of Chemical Engineers and the Engineers Australia recognises the course as fulfilling the academic requirements for graduate membership. On obtaining the necessary experience graduates will be eligible for corporate membership of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and Engineers Australia. Graduates of this course may be eligible for membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute Incorporated (RACI).
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks and other essential study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Bachelor Double Degree are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au and include flexible entry pathways. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Applicants require an ATAR ≥80; Mathematics Methods ATAR and Chemistry ATAR; and at least one of the following: Physics ATAR; Engineering Studies ATAR. Desirable: Mathematics Specialist ATAR. The STAT is not acceptable for entry to this course.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Pathway to Further Study

Specific Course Completion Details
To satisfy professional requirements, students must complete at least 12 weeks of approved work experience associated with engineering in industry. Students may make their own arrangements for employment or seek the assistance of Careers and Prospective Students Service. As one objective of this work is to make theoretical studies in courses more meaningful, it must be done during the period that the student is undertaking those studies, ie it is to be done in vacations, or in employment as a part-time student, rather than after all course work has been completed. Students are strongly urged to consider the 12 weeks a minimum and to undertake as much additional work experience as they can. Students are required to submit a report covering the work carried out. Further details regarding the work/report required are available from the various engineering schools. A current certificate of successful completion of an approved course in first aid is required before a degree will be awarded.
Course Entry/Completion Note
Well-performed candidates without one of the prerequisite subjects may be accepted and required to undertake an additional program of preparatory studies. Selection is based primarily on Tertiary Entrance Rank. Students may switch to either degree program at the end of Year One with no time loss.
Bachelor Double Degrees include a combined degree study program leading to two awards. The duration of the double degree may vary among disciplines, but typically requires less time to complete than if the two undergraduate degrees were studied separately.
The structure of Engineering, Science and Computing owned double degrees is such that students have the option of completing the component Engineering, Science or Computing degree in the minimum time, provided they elect to change from the double degree within the first two semesters of the course.

This course is five years' full-time study or equivalent part-time study. Only one intake is offered each year, in Semester 1.
